What’s the perfect duvet to keep you warm this winter?

In the winter months, thoughts tend to turn to keeping warm, and there’s nothing better than getting into a nice warm bed and snuggling down for a cosy nights sleep. But what if your duvet doesn’t quite pass muster? What if you’re waking up every morning with cold toes, and bed doesn’t quite feel as welcoming as it should. Whilst some of us may simply opt to turn the heating up, that costs money in the long run, and you may be better opting to purchase a new duvet instead. But which type of duvet to go for?

Getting the size right

Although many people buy a single duvet for a single bed, a double for a double bed etc , it might be a good idea for you to consider, especially if there’s two of you in bed, getting a size larger. In the winter, many of us pull out duvets up over our heads to keep warm, which may leave the other person without any cover. Not nice to wake up to – I can tell you.  Getting a duvet just one size bigger (a king sized duvet for a double bed) can avoid arguments and make sure everyone has a warm night’s sleep.

The tog

Although the 13.5 tog duvets are available, some people find them too warm and stuffy, although if you get the brand right, this isn’t a problem as such, but opting for a lower tog might be an option if you tend to overheat at night. A 10.5 tog duvet may be the ideal solution. Warm enough to ensure you stay cosy but cool enough to get a good night’s sleep. For those who can’t decide, you could always consider an all seasons duvet, usually made up of a 9 tog and a 4.5 tog that can be clipped together for toasty 13.5 tog warmth on a really cold night. The perfect duvet for the indecisive and the forward planners, we think!

The filling

This tends to be more of a matter of taste. If you suffer from allergies, then opting for a hypoallergenic microfibre duvet one is obviously a must, whereas if you love the feel of a feather or down duvet then there are plenty of choices available.

Once you’ve considered all of your options, simply order your duvet, and a new duvet cover if you’ve gone for a size larger, and look forward to a winter full of warm toasty night’s sleep!
