Out with the old trends and in with the new

A new year means new fashions, so it’s time to refresh your home with a new look. Last year the big trends included chevron print (the zig-zag pattern covered walls), cushions and duvet covers. Bright colours are also out this year, while cheerful and fun, these colours aren’t built to last and will already be fading as we enter 2015. When it comes to furniture, polished and matching pieces are ‘done’ and eclectic, multi era décor is very much in. Here’s a rundown of the colours, prints, patterns, and other interior decorations that will be trending this year:

Colours

As mentioned above, the bright colours that covered walls and bedding in 2014 won’t be as popular this year. Instead, expect to see much more neutral colours creeping in. Neutral greys and browns will be especially prevalent; with neutral colours as a base means you can add splashes of colours elsewhere and not have too many tones in one room. Start off with a plain grey or latte colour bed sheet and you’ll be able to add more exciting colour elsewhere on your bed. To add a bit of colour, one of the hues to be looking out for is olive green and designers think it will be very big this year. It’s warm, organic and will look good with almost any other colour. This Georgina Herringbone twill fringed throw will look great over the neutral tones of your bed sheets.

Patterns

The bold and bright chevron patterns are being taken over by nature this year, as not only are natural materials such as raw wood and stone being introduced into furniture pieces, but also similar patterns on wallpaper, sofas and bedding. Flora and fauna patterns are becoming big, and plants are working their way up walls and around furnishings with natural beige and light green colours. Add a subtle tone of nature with curtains, while also adding accents of blue, or invite guests to your table adorned with this Damask rose table cloth.

Furnishings

As mentioned before, sleek contemporary furniture and decorations won’t be as popular this year, but instead you should be looking for an eclectic mix of furnishings and décor. Be especially on the lookout for rustic and retro styles, as a good mix can make any room look inviting and comfortable. For added appeal, why not throw down a traditional rug in your living room for a cozy feel or a vintage looking flower print duvet cover for your room.

If you are selective with what you choose to fill your house, then with these tips you can be sure to have a comfortable and inviting home that looks great every day. Just make sure you don’t bring in too many new pieces as they will all start to clash with each other!
