New Year, New Linen

2015 is almost upon us. The New Year brings with it a change and an opportunity for a fresh start. With that in mind what not give your house a fresh new look with new linen from Linens Limited.

Why buy new linen?

Nothing completes your home like fantastic quality linen. From luxurious Egyptian cotton bath towels to high thread count bed linen, there is no better way to treat you and your home this New Year.

Top tips for buying new bed linen

We spend approximately a third of our lives in bed, so it is worth investing in good quality linen.  A place to relax and retreat, a beautiful bedroom with quality bed linen is worth more than money can buy.

Thread Count

When looking for the best quality linen we often focus on thread count. Whilst this is a useful figure, you should not always assume that a high thread count means a better quality fabric. Brushed cotton and flannelette bed sheets often have a low thread count as the yarns are more loosely woven. High thread count linen is stiffer and will require a good iron before putting on to your bed.

Fabrics

Cotton is the most common fibre used to make bed linen. Known for its natural breathability and durability, cotton is processed in a number of different ways to produce smoother, softer and stronger bed linen.

Egyptian cotton has an unusually long staple which results in a finer yarn and softer linen. Turkish cotton is also grown for its long staple, producing linen of a similar quality.

Flannelette is woven using cotton yarns with a long staple which are then finely brushed to create the tiny soft fibres and velvety smooth feel.

Polycotton, as the name suggests, is a blend of polyester and cotton. Easy to launder, this blend feels soft and smooth like pure cotton.

Styles

When choosing your new bed linen there is a number of different styles to consider. A ‘housewife’ pillowcase is the most popular choice for sleeping on as it is an edge-to-edge pillowcase. ‘Oxford’ pillowcases feature an extra border around the seemed edge and are often used as dress pillows.

Bottom sheets are available in two styles, fitted or flat. A fitted sheet has elasticated corners which secure the sheet whilst you sleep; these are a great choice for children. Flat sheets have no elastication and need to be folded at the corners and tucked underneath your mattress.

As with pillow cases, duvet covers are available as either a housewife or Oxford cover.

Top tips for buying new bath linen

There is no better way to pamper yourself in the New Year than with a new set of bath linen. From stepping onto a beautifully soft bath mat to wrapping yourself in a luxury fluffy towel, choosing the right bath linen can make all the difference.

Weight

The weight of a towel is measured in GSM or grams per square metre. As a general rule, the heavier the towel the more absorbent it is, however the type of cotton used can also impact this. Towels range from lightweight 150-350gsm to heavyweight 600-900gsm. At Linens Limited we stock a fantastic range of luxury 650gsm towels woven to the highest standards.

Types of towel

Towels are available in Egyptian cotton, Turkish cotton and standard cotton. Egyptian cotton is widely recognised as one of the best quality cottons in the world. At Linens Limited we have sourced the highest quality Egyptian and Turkish cotton towels made with a deep pile for a soft, warm and absorbent feel.

Size

At Linens Limited we stock a wide range of sizes including face towels, guest and hand towels, bath towels, bath sheets and jumbo bath sheets. Bath sheets are bigger than a standard bath towel and are a great size for drying after a bath. Bath towels are the ideal size for children and guest bathrooms.
