How to Sleep Well in Summer Heat

For most of us, long summer days often come hand-in-hand with frustratingly hot summer nights spent tossing and turning, sticking to the bedding, and watching hours tick by like seconds as we lay melting into the sheets.

At Linens Limited, we understand how important it is to get a good night’s sleep all year round. That is why we have pulled together some of our best tips to help you cool down as the mercury rises this summer!

Use a low tog / lightweight duvet

Consider ridding your bed of thick duvets and blankets. The heavier the duvet, the better insulated you are, which means your duvet will store and maintain heat throughout the night. Reducing the tog of your duvet will allow body heat to escape easily, making your bed feel a lot less like a sauna! Tog 4.5 should help keep you cool and allow for a better night’s sleep.

Remove your duvet from its cover

If you’ve tried a lower tog duvet and you’re still too hot, try removing the duvet from its cover and sleep with only the cover over you – a great alternative for people that can’t stand the heat, but struggle to commit to going duvet-less!

Choose cooling linen or 100% Egyptian cotton bed linen to ensure that you are benefitting from the most natural fabrics. We love this stunning reversible set by Bianca Meadow – shop here.

Choose the right products

Choosing the right products can improve your sleep dramatically. Whether it’s your bedding or nightwear, switch out silk and satin for more breathable materials such as cotton or linen.

Take advantage of products that were designed specifically for tackling warmer nights. For example, the Sleep Easy Cool Gel Memory Foam Pillow is built with an integrated gel pad on one side to stop your head from overheating. This pillow was made for those who can’t get enough of the cold side of the pillow!

DIY AC

Hear us out, it works! A litre bottle of frozen water or a bucket of ice placed in front of a fan is supposed to do as good a job as AC. The ice cools the air from the fan and makes for a cooler breeze. Definitely one to try when it feels like your fan is doing nothing more than circulating hot air around the room.

Most importantly, keep hydrated!

It’s no secret that a glass of water cools you down and so it’s no surprise that keeping hydrated is one of your best defences against the heat. Water regulates your body temperature and allows you to cool down from the inside out. Sleep with a glass of water by the bed to sip during the night.
