How to Keep Your House Warm This Season

Well, summer is nearly over, the kids have gone back to school, and that familiar biting wind is on it’s way back to us. Yes folks, we’re heading into autumn, and with that in mind, it’s time to start thinking of keeping your home a comfy cosy, and more importantly warm haven from the bitter weather that’s sure to come in.  Here we explore some ways of making sure your home is always warm:

Heating checks

If ever there is a good time to make sure your central heating, and hot water is working correctly, it’s now. If you get regular checks as part of a tenanted property, it’s best to get them done now, before the cold weather hits. If you’re a homeowner, then get your boiler serviced if needed and your pipes checked to make sure there aren’t any nasty surprises when the weather comes in.

Draughts and cold breezes

Are your window seals intact? Now it a good time to check, and seal up any areas that need doing before the weather gets too damp, cold and windy. Draught excluders are a pretty good idea for under doors, so you should get a couple of good ones, particularly for your lounge in order to preserve a cosy haven.

Insulate

Quality insulation can ensure your house stays warm right throughout winter, and can save you money in the long term, as it will cost you less to heat your home. In some cases, you can get discounts on cavity wall insulation, and grants are available for some, so check out your options.

Curtains and carpets

Depending on the type of house you keep, changing your curtains and putting rugs down may be a warming start to the cold season. Thicker curtains keep heat in and can make a room feel cosy, but don’t have them covering the radiator or you won’t feel the benefit of any heat generated.  Rugs are a great idea both on wood floors and laminate, but make sure they don’t pose a trip hazard or you’ll be taking a trip in the cold to the doctors.

Keeping warm in bed

One of the most important things to remember is that having the heating on at all times can leave the air a little dry and make you feel a bit rough. Investing in some good quality bedding can ensure that you’re warm this season without having to have the heating on all night.

What are your best ways to keep you home warm? We’d love to hear them!
