How to keep your bedroom warm this autumn/winter

Now that the weather has started to turn cold, many of us will be searching our wardrobes and drawers for big woolly jumpers, scarves and extra blankets to keep us warm. Whilst layering up is a great way to keep warm during the day, it’s not advisable to wear your favourite jumper and scarf to bed!

To keep warm when you go to sleep many people think that they have to layer up. Whilst this does work, all those blankets and duvets can be heavy and uncomfortable. The best solution for a cosy night’s sleep is to invest in a quality duvet with a superior duvet filling.

What’s makes a good duvet?

Duvets are a single layer of bedding that take the place of numerous blankets and bed sheets. Manufacturers construct them in such a way that the duvet fillings and fibres keep you warm in the winter or cool in the summer. Duvets are given a tog rating according to their insulating properties, with high tog ratings providing a warmer duvet and vica versa.

Types of duvet

To keep warm in the winter months it is important to get a good quality duvet. This will provided a great ‘foundation’ helping to keep the heat in and cold out. There is a great range to choose from so make sure to pick the perfect one for you.

Feather duvets

Duck or goose feathers are used to manufacture feather duvets. Much lighter than a traditional wool duvet, feather duvets are much softer than many other types of duvet. The ideal choice for winter, feather duvets will keep you warm and cosy.

Microfibre/Hollowfibre duvets

Made from synthetic fibres, microfibre and hollowfibre duvets are often a popular choice for allergy sufferers. Anti-allergy duvets are treated with antimicrobial and antibacterial protection to minimise reactions. Most synthetic duvets can be easily washed at 60°C which also helps kill dust mites.
