This is how you can get a better night’s sleep

Blue modern boho bedroom

We’ve all been there… tossing and turning in the night, unable to get comfortable and catch those well-deserved zzz’s.

There’s nothing quite as frustrating as starting to fall asleep only to feel your bottom sheet ping off and become tangled between your feet, or to feel your duvet bunched inside its cover.

But you’re not to blame! With so many different mattress depths, duvet sizes and pillow styles, it can feel impossible to choose the right linen for your bed.

Luckily for you, we’ve put together a handy guide to help you find the best bed linen to ensure you get a better night’s sleep.

Flat or fitted

When it comes to bottom sheets, one of the most important things to do is check the depth of your mattress to prevent you waking up to your sheet crinkled in the middle of the bed.

If you haven’t quite mastered the skill of hospital corners, a fitted sheet is probably your best bet, as the elastic will help the linen grip underneath your mattress.

Whichever you decide, opting for 100% Egyptian cotton is recommended for a touch of luxury, take a look at these quality flat and fitted sheets to find your perfect match.

Making bed

Even when you’ve settled on a flat or fitted sheet, there are still a whole host of other choices to make – like what colour, with or without a valance – which is very much down to personal preference.

Perfect pillows

There is no shame in admitting you didn’t know that pillow sizes are not universal, trust us – you’re not the first and you certainly won’t be the last!

A ‘standard’ pillow size is around 50x75cm but they can be as big as 50x90cm – so be sure to check the measurements of yours to get pillowcases that fit perfectly.

Pillows

If you find yourself with a little extra room to fill, try doubling up thinner pillows in one pillowcase, or filling them out slightly with quilted pillow protectors – which will also help you keep your pillows fresher for longer.

You’ll also want to decide whether you prefer housewife or oxford style pillowcases. For a classic, clean finish, we love these white housewife pillowcases – and the satin stripe on these oxford pillowcases adds subtle detail.

Tips and tricks

As well as adding an extra layer of comfort, a mattress protector might help your bottom sheet stay in place, as of the extra thickness, especially if you prefer a silky sheet.

These also come in a range of styles – you can get waterproof protectors or this extra deep one might come in handy if you’ve bought a bottom sheet that’s too deep for your mattress.

Bedroom

With the right bedsheets and pillows in place, now there’s no reason why you shouldn’t get a great night’s sleep every night.

The only thing we unfortunately can’t help you with is your partner’s snoring!
