How to decorate your University bedroom

You’re on your own, moved out from home, perhaps for the first time, and you’ve finally got your own space. Sound familiar? If you’re one of the many thousands of Uni students making their first steps into a bright future, then it should do! What many new students forget, when they’re planning for Uni life, is decorating their bedroom, whether at halls or in a shared house. However, this is an important part of making home away from home feel comfortable, look good and enable you to study better.

Desk

One thing that you must have is a good desk. These may already be provided by your halls or you may be renting a furnished pad, but whether you have to buy one or not, you should accessorize your desk with things that will help you study better. Coloured accessories or inspirational posters with quotes on can make such a difference to the space and if you like, you can add in some photo frames of your loved ones. Just a word to the wise, if you’re intending on getting any study done, don’t clutter your desk. Photos on a noticeboard or on the wall in a nice frame are a great idea.

Bed

Next, the bed. A good nights sleep whether after a heavy night at fresher’s week or before an exam or lecture is something you’re likely to be in need of, so choose comfortable bedding that you can layer up on. Sheets, blankets and duvets in coordinating designs or colours in breathable cotton can make sure you’re always comfy at night, and this in turn will make sure you’re more alert during the day.

Curtains

Curtains are something that you may not have considered but are an essential part of your Uni bedroom. Choose your colours carefully and make sure that you choose those with a good lining, so you can enjoy a nice lie in once in a while. When it comes to colours choose those that complement your bedding, and this will pull together the look of the room very well.

Storage boxes

If you’re short on space, consider stacking up coloured storage boxes in colours that go with the rest of the room. This will not only allow you to clear up quickly if you have visitors, but also will open up a bit more space and make you feel less hemmed in if your room is really small.

All in all, you should have fun with your University bedroom décor. This is a great chance to experiment for when you get your first home!
