How to create a vintage style bedroom

A vintage style bedroom is the epitome of femininity. Stylish, and delicate, it can be relaxing, comforting and most of all, luxurious. However, you don’t have to spend a fortune creating that vintage look in your own bedroom. In fact, it’s surprising how little you have to spend to get the look you want.

The Furniture

When choosing your vintage furniture, don’t necessary go for a department store. Search instead on various second-hand websites and purchase an old-fashioned looking chest, dresser or headboard. You can up-cycle this extremely easily, by either sanding and repainting, or covering in materials such as lace or patterned fabrics.  Remember to add little extras such as new handles on a dresser or a lace cover on the top of a desk to add that little vintage extra.  If you’re not too crafty, there are plenty of people who love to up cycle furniture, so use what you have and find an up cycler to do it for you. They will get a new piece for their portfolio, and you’ll get a brand new look to your furniture at a fraction of the price of buying new. Of course, if you afford to splash the cash, there are many high-end boutiques selling one off pieces.

The Accessories

As mentioned before, it’s the little things that make such a big difference when it comes to pulling together the look of your room. Vases, Lamps, chests and Wall art can be purchased or made quite easily. Don’t’ shy away from colour, thinking a vintage bedroom should be all white, as that can make it difficult to keep clean, and to be honest, a little dull. Use accents for colour. Pink is a great colour, as is grey or light blue, whilst many swear by pale green. Vintage looks can work with many different colours. Remember this and you won’t be disappointed.

Soft Furnishings

Of course the largest piece of furniture in the bedroom is always going to be the bed itself, and there is much you can do here to transform your room into a vintage paradise. If you’ve purchased a very modern bed that doesn’t go with the look you want to create, then think about purchasing a valance that will cover much of the lower part of the bed. Buying comforters, throw pillows in different patterns and getting a nice lacy throw, will really help to finish the room off.
