7 Ways to Create a Warm and Cosy Bedroom This Winter

As the nights get longer and the temperatures outside start to drop, our homes can start to feel more glacial than glamorous.

There is nowhere in the home that you feel the cold more than in the bedroom, when a frost in the air can ruin a comfortable night’s sleep.

Fortunately, help is at hand! In this blog post, we’ll take you through seven steps you can take to create a warm and cosy bedroom this winter.

1. Up your tog count

The very first thing you should do if your bedroom is feeling chilly is switch to a winter duvet with a higher tog rating. The tog rating is the ‘thermal overall grade’, and is designed to give you guidance as to which duvet to use per season. Operating from 1 (the very lightest of duvets) up to 15 (the heaviest), most people prefer to switch the duvet on their bed up to at least 10.5 as soon as the clocks fall back in October.

We have a huge range of duvets, available in natural and anti-allergy options, so there’s something for everyone. Need more advice? Check out our duvet buying guide.

2. Cosy up your bed linen

You probably didn’t need an excuse, but winter is the best opportunity to create a gorgeous hygge vibe in your home, and cosy bed linen is our absolute top pick this year. With a new range of uniquely fleecy and cuddly duvet cover sets, you’ll never want to leave your bed!

And if that doesn’t tickle your fancy, why not try our 1000 thread count 100% Egyptian cotton sateen duvet cover from Belledorm for an extra special treat this year?

3. Add layers

If your temperature fluctuates while you sleep, sometimes it’s better to have a multitude of layering options so you can adjust how warm you want to feel during the night. Throws and bedspreads are a great way to give you the flexibility you’re looking for – plus they add a chic look to your bedroom that you can update and refresh as you please!

4. Keep out the draft – thermal curtains

A super simple way to ensure your bedrooms keep warm throughout the night is to hang up thermal curtains. These super close-woven threads are designed to make sure no heat escapes out of the windows while you sleep, and they also do a great job of keeping drafts at bay! Check out our curtain buying guide for more information.

5. Don’t forget the floors

Is there anything worse than being greeted with an ice-cold floor after a night tucked up in a perfectly warm and cosy bed? Your feet deserve better – so make sure your wooden floors offer an indulgent and comfortable start in the morning with a fabulous rug (or two!). This year, we’re loving our shaggy rug collection for that extra luxury softness.
