spring cleaning

Spring is just around the corner, and with the rain clearing and wind subsiding – now is a great time to brush the dust and cobwebs out of your home ready for the months of sun.

Spring cleaning the entire home can be quite daunting; knowing where to start or what corners to cut is the first step –  so we’ve designed a blog to give you some hints and tips with cleaning secrets to make the most out the task ahead and give you a beautiful home you’ll be proud of.

1) Rugs

Rugs are notoriously tricky to clean, as the build up of dust and dirt can get trapped deep beneath the rug fibres – which means your vacuum can’t always get you the results you need. Firstly, it’s important to purchase a good quality vacuum cleaner, the higher the suction the better results you will see, with easy storage and simple-to-use features, your new vacuum should work with you, not against you.

For harder to reach stains,  there are hundreds of recipes for home-made solutions such as laundry detergent, ammonia mix or window cleaner that can be created and used at home at minimal cost, then be gently applied to lift almost all marks without the need to buy new, expensive products.

2) Pet hair

Pets can be wonderful to have around the home and often become part of the family, sadly, they also create a messes leaving you to clean up after them. A common problem with house holds and soft furnishings is pet hair, this hair will cling to your sofas and carpets and can be difficult to lift.

If using your vacuum or sticky roller, this may work for a small amount of hairs but we have found that these techniques don’t always pick up the complete amount of hair, and result in semi-clean furnishings. One of our favourite tried and tested tips is for using a slightly wet rubber dish washing glove; as you run your hand over your soft furnishings, the pet hair starts to clump together and then can be easily removed.

3) Clean cleaning items

Clean cleaning items may sound like a tongue twister, but it’s actually a serious point to make about keeping your home clean. If the tools you use to clean your home are dirty, you just end up spreading dirt and odors instead of cleanliness. Sponges and cloths will be able to go in the washing machine, but this can be a longer process as you then have to wait for them to dry and this can effect their ability to lift dirt properly.

Our secret tip for you, is to place your cloths and sponges into the microwave. Ensure they’re damp, and sitting on a piece of kitchen cloth or a paper towel whilst in a container with some extra water, and set the microwave to run for 2 minutes. This will completely remove all bacteria, and you will then be left with soft fresh cloths ready to used anywhere in the home.
