Sweet dreams: top 5 dream scenarios and their meanings

Dreams are a natural part of your sleeping pattern. Everyone on the planet will experience dreaming at some point of their life, and they affect everyone differently.  The dreamer has reduced control over emotions, memory and visual images, however, they will almost always be relatable to your waking life.

From falling, to flying or being late for an exam, our dreams hold significant association to our inner emotions, and can often indicate how we are really feeling or how we want to feel. We’ve researched some of the most common dream scenarios and established their overall meaning so you can get to the bottom of your night time adventures.

Chased

Whether it’s a known enemy, animal or even something completely obscure – we will run away from anything in our dreams, and it can be completely terrifying at the time even if in reality we would never waste our energy like that.

This type of dream will date back to when running away or being attacked was not unusual – we weren’t always at the top of the food chain so our brains had to react quickly. However, as we no longer have to fear these beasts on a day to day basis, our brain may still associate this vision with anger, fear or anxiety in modern life.

Falling

Just like being chased, if you dream of falling it could mean you have feelings of insecurity and anxiety – as it emulates the same feelings to fall or be out of control. Feeling out of control in your real life whether that be a relationship or work situation can often lead to similar experiences in  your dreams.

Teeth

From teeth starting to crumble and decaying of their own accord, or whether a tooth feels unusually loose in your mouth, we have all had a dream of losing our teeth. The key will be look at the situation that surrounds you losing the teeth, was there any humiliation or embarrassment? Were you scared?

Losing your teeth can indicate losing control of what’s yours, and understanding the scenario around their departure will help you focus on where you feel out of control in real life.

Water

How you feel about water in real life will affect how you choose to represent it in your dreams. Was the water turbulent and dark, or clear and calm? The water could represent your current emotions or represent a memory.

Try to remember how you reacted to the water in your dream, did you recognise the area? Understanding the origins of the imagery will help you realise what this symbol can mean.

Death

One of the most scary dreams to have – either you or a loved one passing away. Sometimes you will wake up just as you are about to die, or your dreaming state is aware that someone has passed; either way – these situations can indicate an outgrown or destructive part of yourself or your life that is no longer working for you.

Try to see the death in your dreams as a symbolic loss for dysfunctional aspects of your life, your brain is simply working through the bad and hey are a healthy part of your coping mechanism.
