Top tips for packing uni essentials

  • Making sure they have access to the bare essentials from the very start is important, but you can save money by holding off purchasing anything extra until after the start of uni. Over packing will cost money and take up valuable car and room space, so wait to figure out what else they need and avoid having five toastie makers in one kitchen.
  • Uni rooms are likely smaller than their bedroom at home, so get them thinking about what’s important and what can stay behind. This will save unnecessary endless trips to the car when moving in and moving out at the end of the year. When they cut down on the hours spent packing, they’ll thank you.
  • Make sure all the important documents are stored somewhere safe and ready to go. Things like passports and any NHS cards or numbers probably won’t be the first thing on their mind, but they will be once they need to get a job or register for the doctors. We recommend getting a document folder to avoid any unfortunate losses.
  • Get them covered with the right insurance. There’s a range of insurance options you can get as well as getting them covered by their own. While you might be sure you’re sending off a little angel to uni, that might not be the case with everyone, and insurance is a lot cheaper than a new laptop.
