There’s no better feeling than getting into bed after a long day – especially when you’ve put on brand new, crisp white sheets.

The nation’s favourite colour of bed linen, white bedding is crisp, clean and bright. As such, this neutral and modern bedding compliments most bedroom styles and so is a popular choice for many home owners.

If you’ve just treated yourself to a new duvet cover set or white bed sheets, you’ll want to enjoy that brand new feeling for as long as you can. To help you keep your white’s white; we’ve got 6 top tips for improving your washing routine to ensure your bed linen stays brighter for longer.

6 ways to keep your bedding bright

Wash your sheets once a week

It is always recommended that you change and wash your bed linen once a week to remove excess dust and dirt; this also gives you that freshly made bed feeling more often! Make sure to check the care labels on your bedding before the first launder to ensure you’re washing at the optimal temperature.

Use whitening agents

If your sheets are 100% white; using a whitening agent can really help maintain brightness. Most are very inexpensive and simply require adding to the wash with your normal washing powder/capsule. Make sure to check the whitener is suitable for your bedding and follow the instructions carefully.

Wash your whites separately

Whilst this may seem obvious, it is important to make sure you wash white items with other pure whites. If possible try to split your washing loads into white, light colours, dark colours and blacks to avoid any colour contamination. Most 100% cotton white bed linen and bath towels can be washed at 40 degrees to remove stains.

Tumble dry your sheets

If you’re looking for that crisp, white new bedding look we’d recommend tumble drying your bedding until slightly damp. In the case of 100% cotton & linen bedding, make sure to hang-up or iron the bedding before it’s fully dry to minimise wrinkles.

Store your bedding properly

Whilst it might seem a little excessive; if you want your bedding to maintain its whiteness, we’d always recommend storing it in a cool, dry place away from dust or sunlight. Fabric storage bags are a great solution for keeping your bed linen clean whilst not in use.

Buy new bed linen

We spend almost a 1/3 of our time in bed annually, that’s a massive 2,372.5 hours or 100 days per year. With that in mind, it’s just as important if not more so, to buy new bed linen as often as you buy a new pair of shoes. When your bedding is beginning to look tired or losing its sparkle make sure to replace it – we promise you won’t regret it.
