Whether we’re inspired by the new sunny weather or just want to create a happy escape from those spring showers, it’s the season for injecting colour into our homes. Use colour to create a completely new look with paint and new furniture, or switch up your style without all the fuss with the addition of some home furnishings. However you choose to brighten up your home, some simple colour wheel guidance and the latest colours can help you create your look. From clashing pastels and deep shades to calming complementary tones, there’s something for everyone with these latest colours for your home.
To help you create your perfect look we’ve also chosen our favourite home furnishings to show off each of these fantastic colour schemes.
Yellow rose
If you’re looking for an especially bright and sunny style for summer, why not try pairing the palest of pinks with yellow. This look works great with both a bright and eye catching yellow as well as a sandier tone. Purple is positioned opposite yellow on the colour wheel and is often used to help balance out the sometimes overstated colour, so this pastel rose colour is a unique twist on an otherwise tried and tested design.
Work yellow extensively into your furnishings including rugs, cushions and blinds. Then use a pale pink sparingly with additional cushions and accents around the room. We also love how this yellow fluffy rug introduces some texture into the look and will work well contrasted with the pale wood and clean white furniture that is often used best with yellow.

Purple haze
This purple colour scheme creates a unique soothing environment thanks to deep meadow violets and rich plums. The whole look is then balanced with subtle pink toned lilacs. The best thing about this colour scheme is its simplicity; using shades from the same colour family means it’s easy to execute and hard to go wrong. If you’re planning on getting the paint out this summer then you have to try this amazing ombre effect made by sponging a darker colour downwards over a light shade.
If you don’t fancy getting messy with the paint roller you can always use some inexpensive home furnishings to try out this design. We’ve chosen some deeper plum tones for our look, but with this colour scheme you can change the ratio of dark to light tones to suit your tastes. Pair with simple neutral-toned linens, like our crisp bed linen from Sashi bed linen, for a dreamy look. Rustic furniture and dark wood will also help to set off this style.

Light and dark
Opt for a sophisticated colour clash by pairing dark black or grey shades with soft pastel tones. This colour combination works especially well with light chalky pinks. Additionally, dark grey creates a unique urban twist on a feminine style. If you want a striking yet elegant look with a twist, this could just be the colour scheme for you.
Use pastel pink in cushions and accessories to set off dark furnishings and furniture pieces. This striped rug uses a range of dark grey shades and light pink for a stylish mix. It’s also a great way to tie all the colours together. Similarly, our sophisticated cushion using fuchsia and deep grey could help your pink accents pop. Natural wood elements work well with this colour combination, giving it an urban edge while softening the overall clash of the two colours.

Complementary pastel colours
If you like the simplicity of a colour scheme that uses complementary colours or shades from the same family but want a lighter look than our purple haze style, why not try complementary pastels. You can try this look with any colour, but pastel greens are set to be the must have colours for 2017. With a mix of tones, from deeper grassy shades to lighter zesty greens, this colour scheme is both bright and calming.
Choose your favourite pastels and use soft home furnishings and cushions to create your look. Pastel and light duck egg blues can also look great with shades of green. We’ve used a simple striped chenille cushion cover in duck egg for a unique twist. Furthermore, we recommend pairing with white wood and rustic furnishings for a modern twist on a classic style. You can also opt for dark wood to create a more refined look.
