Add some colour with Luxury rugs

Is your living room or bedroom looking a little boring? Then why not add some colour and texture to your room with a soft rug. From hallway warming runners to large statement rugs, there are loads of different ways to add a little colour and interest to your room with minimal effort.

Choosing the right rug

So you have decided that you want to buy a rug for your living room but don’t know which one to buy or what will work best in your space. Depending on where you want to place your rug, there are a number of things you should take into consideration.

The beauty of a rug is that it can either open up a space or make it seem cosier. If you want to create the feeling of spaciousness we would recommend light colours and simple patterns. Similarly, if you are looking to make a large space appear cosier then opt for a darker colour or rug with a dense or ornate pattern.

If your room is lacking in colour, both styles can work if you choose the right pattern and tone. If you have a small room go for a light and bright colour such as lime green or lavender. For a large room, go for a statement deep purple or red rug in a large floral print.

What size rug is best?

Aside from print and/or colour, size is one of the most important factors to consider when buying a new rug. The wrong size can make a small room look too cluttered or, look out of place and odd in a large room.

Depending on your needs there are a wide range of different size rugs available. For the hallway choose from long runners or, for the bedroom or living room choose from small to large options. As a general rule, small rugs tend to be used to highlight smaller pieces of furniture as the focal point in the room. For example use a small rug under a coffee table to add a pop of colour. Larger rugs are the ideal choice for a dining room, lounge or bedroom. It is advisable to go for a rug slighter smaller than the available space to avoid tucking edges under furniture.

It is important to remember that a rug will become the focal point of your room. They can be used to draw the attention to certain areas in a room or to compliment and existing focal point.

Colour

If you don’t have the time or money to redecorate, a rug is the perfect tool to transform your room. A rug can give a fresh look to a tired room or add colour and interest in a neutral room. When deciding on the perfect rug it is important to remember your chosen style and colour scheme. Look for a rug that will complement and enhance your décor, not act as a distraction.

When choosing the right colour rug it is advisable to select an accent colour from your soft furnishings and décor. For a room that already has lots of colour, go for a complimentary or neutral rug. Similarly for a neutral room choose a brightly coloured or patterned rug.

Texture

Rugs are available in a range of styles to suit different needs. If you are looking to add warmth and texture to a room of any size, look for a rug with a deep pile. Similarly, if you are just looking to add colour, go for a flat pile rug.

Before selecting a deep pile rug think about the placement. If placing near a door or cupboard, make sure that the pile does not affect access. It is not advisable to place a deep pile rug in a high traffic area as it may get dirty more quickly.
