5 Ways to Build the Ultimate Pillow Fort

Duvets days have taken on a whole new meaning these past few months, but sometimes a duvet on the sofa simply isn’t enough. However, there is help at hand to keep your kids busy over the summer holidays, or even create a safe haven for yourself among the clutter and the chaos. The answer is: a pillow fort!

Transforming your living room into a cosy adventureland is simple and a whole lot of fun. Below are some great ideas for all the different ways in which you can create and style a fort using blankets, throws, bedding and cushions. So get busy and let your imagination run wild – building the fort can be just as entertaining as using it!

1. Pick your room

Space can be tight these days with the whole family at home, but while traditional blanket forts usually take place in the living room, there’s no need for you to do the same.

Hallways, landings, bedrooms or even under the stairs – every space in the house has potential for transformation. So look around for your ideal pitch and stake your claim.

2. Go minimalist

Short on space? Don’t worry, a sheet draped to enclose a pre-existing area will do the trick! A couple of hooks, some rope and a throw is all you need to set up a simple but effective tent on top of a sofa or bed.

3. Movie night

Staying in is the new ‘going out’ – so transform your living room into a private cinema with a cosy den. Tie a sheet to four chairs to create the roof and make sure to use plenty of cushions from the sofa to pad it out for extra comfort!

4. Grown up vibes

Looking for something more sophisticated? Take inspiration from this boho-styled living room. With acres of textured throws, furry rugs and draped curtains, it elevates the idea of a child’s pillow fort to something altogether more grown up.

5. Illuminate for a magic touch

String up the fairy lights to create something truly magical. By using two chairs to form the walls of the fort, layer the inside with a super-soft rug and lots of comfy cushions. With lights strung up inside and out, it’ll be a special place for your little ones to enjoy, from day to night.
