Stay in or go out?

Most people – 62% – love to go to a nearby Bonfire Night event, rather than stay at home.

And of the 25% who stay at home, just 27% have a bonfire themselves in their back garden.

You said:

“My husband saves some wood trimmings to make a bonfire, but my memory of childhood is my mother giving my father large potatoes in the embers to cook and there is nothing like the flavour of the baked potato.”

Your favourite firework

What did you vote for: the catherine wheel, sparklers or a fountain? In fact, the rocket won the vote for the most popular firework with 37%!

You said:

“I always love the fireworks that fly off into the sky with such a force, whilst everyone watching is wondering what pattern and colour will emerge from this tiny tube.

“When the rocket is at its peak I love watching in fascination at the array of colours that showers beneath.”

Bonfire Night: food and drink

Perhaps it’s no surprise, but treacle toffee and parkin scored equally as your favourite snack while you enjoy the warmth of the fire – you simply couldn’t choose between them!

But what about drink?

We asked if you preferred mulled wine, spiced cider, whiskey, tea or coffee, and the winner was: hot chocolate! Nothing better to keep your toes warm on a cold winter’s night – delicious!

Finally, what’s the best thing about Bonfire Night?

Bonfire Night happens once a year, a time to gather together to celebrate a centuries-old tradition, enjoy the gorgeous glow of the bonfire, and ‘oooo’ and ‘ahhh’ at the fireworks display.

But what is the very best thing about bonfire night?

According to you:

“For me it’s happy memories of a family get-together, potatoes in the embers, a roaring fire with guy, and Dad safely setting off the fireworks.”

“Getting together with friends and family and having a good time.”

“The chill of the night and the warmth of the bonfire.”

“Having the whole community getting involved and smiling.”

“Being with family and loved ones whilst watching the younger children enjoying time with their grandma’s, grandad’s, aunties, uncles and having lots of imaginative play with their cousins!”
